Friday Routines - 5/22 - I Make Bread The Old Fashioned Way - well now I do!

Starter, new wooden spoon - recipe included

Sun?  What sun?  It’s been a wee bit rainy around here.  Started last Friday and hasn’t let up since.  I think there’s been a total of 15 hours of sun since last week if that.  Good for the garden.

So that has allowed ample time for another...oh god...project/experiment.  This was not self-imposed.  This little project/experiment was a gift.  And a welcome one at that.  Everyone knows my hand picked personal projects usually end up pear shaped at best!

Last Sunday I high tailed it from post prom breakfast extravaganza (please see pic below taken before the deluge) to Morgan’s (soon to be stunning bride) Bridal Shower and she presented me with an Amish Friendship Bread starter.  I have been diligently stirring it with a wooden spoon every morning for the past 5 days.

Now tomorrow I have to add 1 cup of flour, 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of milk...and stir.  Then for the next 2 days I have to stir it some more.

And then on Day 10 I have to add 1 cup of flour, 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of milk, divide the starter, add some more stuff and well eventually bake it...I actually can’t wait (but I have to, since it’s a 10 day starter) but the key in this bread is FRIENDSHIP...so watch out three friends who are culinary queens...you’ll be getting part of this starter and I’ll expect you to diligently stir and nurture this gift as I have!

Okay that’s it.  And it looks like the sun is trying to peak its way out of the cumulous notorious that are covering our fair island.

All the Mom's that pitched in and helped...THANK YOU!
