Friday Routines - 3/13 - Tomorrow is Pi-Day and Pie Day

Okay, so the other day I was in the produce section AGAIN of my most frequented grocery store.   And this time as I innocently wandered up and down the aisles...there he was Mr. Produce Guy.  He saw me coming and truly started clocking my moves, going anywhere I wasn’t.  It was a game of catch me if you can.  Anyhow...just based on his look and movements through the apples over to the potatoes and stopping at the bagged salad.   I so hoped I wouldn’t have to ask him for anything but he had been stacking fresh mushrooms and they were not on my list.  I was searching for aubergines (eggplants) for Zara’s Zaalouk recipe.  There were only two mangled, bruised and scarred purple veggies left.  So, over to Mr. Produce Guy I traipse, again, he saw me coming...stopped what he was doing and waited...

“Uh, hi again, it’s meeeee.  Are they the only auber...eggplants you have left?”  I asked.

Well before I knew it...Mr. Produce Guy, put down the mushrooms, turned on his heel and said...

“I’ll be right back.”

“Be right back?”  Phew...That was easy.

And right back he was with an entire crate of beautiful, shiny perfect purple beauties.  I picked out the winners and believe that I heard him sigh...we were both relieved.

Tomorrow is Pi- day and it’s Pie day...

And here’s a hint of what I’ll be entering in the competition...recipes to follow on Sunday hopefully with blue ribbons attached!  Fingers crossed.

All of us in the Blogher network have been asked to talk about this very unique program...so here's my public service announcement....

P&G has asked us to help get the word out about their efforts to raise money via T-Shirt sales to support families that are affected by disaster in this one-of-a-kind program. The shirts are vintage-looking and support a great cause.

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the need for clean clothing became critical, and Tide found a way to help. So in November 2005, the Tide Loads of Hope truck headed to Camp Hope in the Metairie, LA area and cleaned over 10,000 loads of laundry. The spirit of this first venture informs and inspires everything Tide Loads of Hope program does.

Tide Loads of Hope can also be supported through the purchase of a Tide Vintage Tee. All profits go to support families affected by disaster.  Click the pic below to show your support.

I better get going...time to mess up the kitchen!

I love that the produce guy recognizes you! Glad you could both be happy. Baking is all about proportions, so pie day Pi Day makes perfect sense, 3/14 or not. :)

Proportions...so true...especially when it comes to the crust!
