A Change of Plates and Gearing up for Wing Fest 2009

Most of my nice plain white simple dinner plates have chunks taken out of the edges…mysteriously…No one knows how this happened, and the general consensus is that they must have done it ALLBYTHEMSELVES.  As dinner plates do!  I am now convinced that after awhile they just take a roll out of the cabinet throw themselves up against the edge of the kitchen counter and chip themselves.  That’s the only explanation I have.  And after in-depth interviews with all the inhabitants here…they concur…the dinner plates couldn’t take it anymore.  They wanted out of this crazy kitchen

These plates are somewhere between that chipped plate stage of okay to use but not for company, or good for holding frozen chicken breasts while defrosting in the fridge…they turn into more of a utility plate but still not ready for the box of broken plates waiting to be turned into a mosaic table top or planter…like I’ll ever get around to that…good intentions and all that.

So, out to Target I went.  And look what I found.  Almost the exact same type of plate for a fraction of the price and I bet a bit tougher since they are slightly heavier. These were $4.99 vs. a small fortune that it would cost to replace the other ones from the designer kitchen store around the corner…sort of.  These are also a touch smaller, which is the new trend in weight loss…apparently all you have to do is use a smaller plate and that will “trick” you into not piling it on and then in turn not piling it on…I kind of get that, but there’s always that thing called seconds.

Now my mind is gearing up for Wing Fest 2009.  I’ve ordered, t-shirts for my friends and Sophie’s friends who have generously and enthusiastically (everyone please keep the enthusiasm!) agreed to help.  I’ll get all the details and logistics out of my head, down on paper and get crack a lackin with making Great Grandma Giles’s BBQ sauce.

Frank over at the General Store offered his giant fridge…so THAT is one item off the list…. Thanks Frank!  It’s going to be a blast!  And from what I understand...Frank serves up some of the best fried chicken on the island.  It's a one stop shop on your way into the plantation!
