Mom’s Tuesday’s Test Kitchen on Wednesday And Other Tales…

Roasted Butternut Squash and Apple Salad featured in the December issue of Bon Appetite was Mom’s Test Kitchen Test, so click on over to Mom’s Test Kitchen page to see how it all worked.  She was a day late (it's usually Tuesday's Test Kitchen) since she just got back from New York and I thought I should give her a day to get a grip.

The December issue is getting a work out.  I’m Cooking the Cover of Bon Appetite today.  It’s a delicious looking Devils Food Cake with Peppermint Frosting.  This works out perfectly since Thursday is my Birthday and we can have that for the celebration!

Here's the cover picture for the December BA

Christmas Cake tales continue…I’m in week three of dousing it with a few tablespoons of brandy.  It feels like a fruit brick, but I can tell it is getting moist and well fruity.  I have a tub of fondant icing (ordered from King Arthur last week) ready and waiting.  I’m excited about this project even though no one around here likes fruitcake and keeps asking what else we’ll be having for dessert on Christmas.  That will be divulged at a later date…since I don’t even know yet.

My AeroGarden project is not going too well, it’s a complete disaster.  The pump broke.  I have to call customer service and get a new one.  In the mean time I’ll take all the little seedlings that were supposed to be hydroponic, till a little soil and turn them into conventional plants.  Which could pose a problem.  I should point out that I am not a gardener at all.  It’s not that I don’t like it.  I’m just not very good at it.  If you saw my garden you could tell.  So much for my winter supply of herbs…ugh.
