Friday Routines - 11/21

A beautiful, sunny, cold, windy day

Finalizing the Thanksgiving feast is top of the agenda.  The other thing I’ll do today is resist the temptation of ordering something, anything, everything from the new Dean & Deluca catalogue that flew through the door.  Instead I’ll use it as inspiration to make more things.  The first one that popped from the pages was the Mille Crêpes “cake.”  “Thousands” of layers of crepes layered with creamy custard.  The price popped too…$95.00!? Watch it be one of those things you make and end up spending more than if you bought it!  Oh, I know that one…but still…$95.00?

I’m also tempted to cook the cover of Bon Appétit, which features a chocolate and peppermint cake.  But with Thanksgiving right around the corner, this would just be kitchen overkill.  So, I’ll wait until the beginning of December for that one.  I’ll just stick to my Thanksgiving tasks.

Oh, I am going to order the fondant icing I need for my Christmas cake project since I don’t want to chance not being able to find it here on the island.  What am I talking about?  I won’t find it here on the island.  Better get on to the King Arthur website.

Cooking from within continues – later I’ll make a little amuse bouche using this stuff (that's frozen chicken breasts in the plastic)

Chicken in puff pastry with boursin...obviously

Not very original, but a crowd favorite around here.
