Friday Routines - 10/03

I just got back from my usual pre weekend jaunt out to Bluffton (about ½ hour off the island) to stock up at Scott Meats.    I picked up the usual staples, chicken, chicken and some more chicken.   Along with a gorgeous 8 pound standing rib roast which I’ll cook on Sunday for our family late lunch or early dinner or Linner as I call it (sounds better than Dunch).

A handsome slab of ribbed beef, like the one in my fridge now, features on the cover of Gourmet this month.   So, we’ll be Cooking that Cover on Sunday.

Our little kitchen competition is stirring the pot a little around here.   Sunday will be a true feast rather than a watching our waist no dessert day.   For Kitchen Competition #2 Mom is making a Pumpkin Pie (with a new recipe she sneakily pinched from somewhere) versus my Pumpkin Cheesecake Brûlée (a recipe that I will sneakily pinch from somewhere or make it up as I go).   The in house experts are loving this new idea and I have to say…me too!

Mom’s Test Kitchen made a version of the Hubbard Squash soup featured in the November Fine Cooking magazine and I’ll post that either later today or tomorrow.   It was really good!   I just love seasonal cooking and am crazy for all kinds of squash.

And as an aside note...If I am not updating here, I will probably be updating over at www.notjusteggs.com to keep all the little chickens over there happy and cooking.
