Pre-Thanksgiving-Thanksgiving - Cooking the Cover of Bon Appétit - November Issue
Monday, October 27, 2008 at 12:26PM My pre-Thanksgiving-Thanksgiving met hiccup after hiccup beginning with the turkey part! I didn’t think it would be too difficult finding a turkey being the season and all. I traipsed up and down highway 278 from grocery store to grocery store. And finally found two turkey breasts, so that’s what we had. Another problem living on a small island other than the nagging in the back of your head that someday you’ll get blown away during hurricane season? No dried figs (for the stuffing). I traipsed up and down….blah, blah, blah. Too early for them according to what I was told. Okay, whatever. Click over to Cooking the Covers for the results from our in-house experts.
Mom had a hit and a “not so much” for her test kitchen. Taken straight from Ina Garten’s November article in House Beautiful. The hit was an absolutely delicious arugula and roasted squash salad. And the “not so much” were thyme “crackers.” They didn’t cut it in her kitchen. I’ll post those on Tuesday. Mom also made these little sausage and feta pockets and I’ll get to that later today or tomorrow…they were delicious too. She’s really coming up with some great stuff.
