Friday Routines - 10/17
Friday, October 17, 2008 at 3:06PM Here it is in the middle of October and the sun is so warm it toasts your skin. I guess since I grew up in upstate New York, then lived in London for ages and only moved to Hilton Head five years ago, I still get excited thinking that bathing suit weather slips into early November if we are lucky.
I decided to postpone my usual jaunt to Bluffton and instead hit the beach with my friend Terry. It was too beautiful not too. I headed to the south end of the island towards North Forest Beach. It’s more “local” down there, plus I wanted to check out the fishmonger at the Coligny Piggly Wiggly. He gets in the local fishermen’s catch and it’s always fresh. I walked by the counter the local shrimp delivery just arrived. They were too beautiful to resist.
And if it was possible for shrimp to be stunning I saw a shrimp beauty pageant. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen such fresh perfect shrimp. The contestants were a white/pink color and a good size. I bought five pounds and a bottle of Sonoma-Cutrer. After all it’s Friday and six o’clock somewhere.
Terry and I skipped the beach; peeled, chatted, poached and opened our wine. Mixed up a quick cocktail sauce; then headed out to her pool with our chilled shrimp and Chardonnay. What a lovely new Friday Routine.
